세상을 누비는 특별한 걸음
한 달 전, 닉은 인생 최대의 도전을 시작했다. 맞춤의족을 제작해 난생 처음 걸어본 것이다. 보드라운 피부의 다리 대신 투박한 철심을 다리삼아 걸어야 하는 닉! 뼈가 으스러지는 듯한 고통을 참아야하지만 닉은 걷는 연습에 늘 열심이다. 몇 발짝 가지 못 해 넘어지고, 땅을 짚고 쉬고를 반복하지만 누구도 닉을 일으켜 세우지 않는다. 오직 혼자만의 힘으로 일어설 수 있도록 하는 것이다. “아주 흥분돼요. 이런 일이 일어날 거라고는 생각지 못 했어요.” 닉이 혼자 걷는 모습을 보며 감격해하는 가족들. 서투르고 힘겹지만 누구보다 당당히 세상 위에 일어선 닉은 앞으로도 힘찬 걸음을 멈추지 않을 것이다.
