의회해산 시일을 두고 협상에 들어간 지금, 거리를 가득 메웠던 맹렬한 함성은 잦아들었으나 붉은 옷의 시위대와 무장한 경찰들은 여전히 날카로운 눈빛으로 서로를 경계하고 있었다. 총 27명의 사망자와 천명이 넘는 부상자. 시위보다는 ‘전쟁’이라는 이름이 더 어울릴 법한 이 싸움은 더 이상 친정부와 반정부 세력 간의 양방 대립이 아니다. 최근 태국의 중심가에는 붉은 옷도, 노란 옷도 아닌 제3, 제4의 세력들이 나타나고 있기 때문이다.
등돌린 언론과 사람들, 노숙하는 시위대의 비애
방콕 시내의 상업중심가 라차프라송 거리. 호화로운 상가들로 북적이던 거리는 황폐해졌다. 붉은 천을 두른 시위대는 고무타이어를 쌓아 만든 방어벽을 세운 채 천막 아래에서 노숙을 하고 있었다. 생계활동마저 뒤로 하고 민주화와 정권퇴진을 외치는 이들은 대부분 저소득층인 농부와 도시빈민들. 그들은 현 아피싯 총리가 자신들이 직접 뽑은 탁신을 몰아내고 권력을 강탈했다고 말했다. “아피싯 총리가 마음대로 우리의 권리를 뺏아 갔어요. 우리는 잃어버린 권리를 다시 찾기 위해 여기에 온 것입니다” 아직은 지지자들의 후원으로 힘겨운 싸움을 이어가고 있지만, 이미 시위대 중 많은 이들이 오랜 투쟁에 지쳐 떠나거나 등을 돌렸다. 일부 병원은 붉은 셔츠를 입은 사람은 아예 받아주지 않는다고 했다. 시위 과정에서의 인명피해와 최근 폭탄테러를 두고, 언론과 정부는 이들을 과격시위대라 비난했다. 그리고 마침내 시민들 중에서도 ‘시위 반대를 위한 시위’를 시작한 일군의 사람들이 나타났다. 바로 무색집단, 제로칼라(또는 멀티칼라) 집단이다.
