아프리카 케냐, 그중에서도 최악의 여성인권 사각지대로 알려진 삼부루지역. 처참한 폭력을 견디며 남성의 소유물로 살아온 여자들이 특별한 반란을 시작했다! 극심한 성차별에서 벗어나 자유와 희망을 노래하기 시작한 삼부루 여성들, 그들의 살맛나는 마을을 찾아갔다.
여자가 먹여살리는 마을, 케냐 삼부루
삼부루 여자들은 하루종일 바쁘다. 요리, 가축 돌보기는 물론 장작패기까지 모두 여자들의 몫. 아이러니하게도, 온갖 노동을 도맡아 하는 이곳 여자들에게는 경제권이 없다. 경제권은커녕 외출도 함부로 할 수 없는 상황. “소 한 두마리를 나한테 주면 내 마누라를 줄게요.” 삼부루 남성들에게 여성은 그저 소유물일 뿐이다. 이렇듯 남성에게 철저히 예속당해 살아온 삼부루 여성들이 자유를 찾아 모여든 곳이 있으니, 바로 여자들만 모여 살아가는 여성공동체다.
여성공동체, 그곳에 남자는 없다
삼부루 최초의 여성공동체는 1990년 16명의 강간 피해여성들이 모여 만든 ‘우모자’ 공동체. ‘우모자’는 ‘함께하는 정신’이라는 뜻으로, 현재 삼부루에는 이와 같은 공동체가 약 50여 개 정도 존재한다. 그중 ‘닝가리 마을’를 찾았다. 남편의 폭력과 조혼, 할례 등 극심한 성차별과 학대로부터 도망친 40 여명의 여성들. 이날 <W>가 만난 여성도 14세에 할아버지뻘의 남자와 강제조혼 후 아기까지 낳았지만, 남편의 심한 폭력을 이기지 못해 집에서 도망쳐 나왔다고 했다. 닝가리의 여자들은 새롭게 마을을 찾아온 그녀를 위해 집짓기를 돕고 가축을 잡아 뜨겁게 환영했다.
공동체의 여자들은 삶에 필요한 모든 활동을 오직 자신들의 힘으로 해내고, 경제적 자립까지 이뤄냈다. 오직 남성에 의한, 남성을 위한 삶을 살아왔지만 이제는 오직 자신을, 여성을 위한 인생을 살겠다는 삼부루 여자들. 그녀들의 가슴 뜨거운 희망이야기

Samburu women are busy all day long. Cooking, livestock caring as well as firewood are all part of the women's. Ironically, there are no economic rights for women here who are responsible for all kinds of labor. We can not go out without much economic power. "If you give me two cows, I'll give you my wife." For three-tier men, women are merely possessions. There are places where women who have been strictly entrusted to men have gathered for liberty, and women's communities live together.
Women's community, there is no man there
Samburu The first women's community was formed in 1990 by a group of 16 victims of rape. 'Woo-hat' means 'spirit of being together'. Currently, there are about 50 such communities in Samburu. <W> found 'Ningari Village' among them. Forty women who escaped from extreme sex discrimination and abuse, including husband's violence, early marriage, and circumcision. The woman she met with <W> also had a baby after 14 years of forced marriage with a man of her grandfather, but she had escaped from home because she could not overcome her husband's violence. The women of Ningari helped to build a house for her newly arrived village and grabbed the cattle and warmly welcomed it.
The women of the community have done all the necessary activities for their lives by their own strength and achieved economic self-reliance. Only men who have lived a life for men, but now they are only three women who want to live their lives for themselves. Their chest is a hot hope story
