군산시에서 서남쪽으로 50.8㎞ 떨어진 해상에 위치하며, 선유도·신시도·장자도 등과 함께 고군산군도를 이루는 섬.
장구모양의 섬과 그 옆에 술잔처럼 생긴 섬 하나가 붙어 있어 무당이 상을 차려놓고 춤을 추는 모양이라고 하여 무녀도라 부른다.
서남쪽에 무녀봉(131m)이 솟아 있을 뿐 지역은 넓어도 높은 산이 없는 것이 특징이다. 주민들은 대부분 어업에 종사하고 있으며 연근해에서는 멸치·새우 등이 잡히고, 바지락 양식과 제염업이 이루어진다. 농산물로는 쌀·보리·고구마 등이 생산된다.
주변의 선유도, 장자도, 대장도 등과는 다리로 연결되어 자유롭게 왕래가 가능하다.

The island of Kogunsan-gun, Jeonbuk Gunsan
Located 50.8km southwest of Gunsan City, the island is composed of Gogunsan Island along with Seonyudo, Sinseido and Jangja Island.
There is an island shaped like a dragon, and an island that looks like a liquor, next to it.
It is characterized by the absence of high mountains even though the area is wide although only 131m is raised in the southwest. Most of the residents are engaged in fishing, and anchovy and shrimp are caught in the coastal waters. Agricultural products include rice, barley, and sweet potato.
It is possible to connect freely to and from neighboring Yeondudo, Jangja-do, and Jejang-do through a bridge.
