인도차이나 반도의 한 축을 형성하는 타이.
그러나 타이족은 동남아시아에 가장 늦게 도착한 민족으로, 민족 존망의 기로를 맞이해 메콩강을 따라 남하했다.
그들의 역사는 어느 서구학자가 표현한 대로 ‘Brief History'이다.
타이족의 대규모 탈출이 있었던 13세기를 ‘타이족의 시대’로 부르기도 한다.
그들의 대이동은 게르만족의 대이동에 비견될 만큼 아시아 사회에 큰 변화를 초래했다.
인터넷에서 ‘랜스마크’라는 이름으로 활약하는 이창운씨.
서울대 고고미술사학과를 졸업한 그는 현재 중국과 아시아의 관문인 운남성에 4년째 거주하면서 아시아여행 전문가의 길을 걷고 있다.
그가 자유를 찾아 떠난 타이인들의 발자취를 찾아 중국, 미얀마, 태국, 라오스에 이르는 총 4천 킬로미터의 대장정에 나섰다.
▶타이족의 대이동
일찍이 남조국(737-902)과 대리국(937-1253)의 도읍이었던 운남성 따리(大理) 남조 대리국은 타이족이 참여한 소수민족의 연합정권이었다.
1253년 남송(南宋)의 배후를 공격하기 위해 원나라 쿠빌라이가 대리국을 점령했다.
타이족은 자유를 찾아 란창강(메콩강의 중국 측 이름)을 통해 대규모 민족대이동을 감행했다.
▶중국 내 작은 태국, 시솽반나
아직 중국에 남아 있는 마지막 타이인들의 거주지 시솽반나.
시솽반나에는 인도차이나까지 남하하지 못한 타이족들이 자치주를 만들고 있다.
타이어와 타이문자와 타이문화를 고스란히 간직한 중국 내 작은 태국 시솽반나! 시솽반나에는 타이족의 원형(Prototype)이 존재한다.
▶최초의 타이왕국 - 란나왕국
중국국경을 넘어오면 란창강은 메콩강으로 불리게 된다.
인도차이나의 관문 황금의 삼각지대에 최초의 타이왕국인 ‘란나왕국’의 건국!
뒤늦게 인도차이나 반도에 도착한 타이인들은 토착세력을 누르고 마침내 치앙마이를 중심으로 700년 왕국을 건설했다.
▶백만 코끼리의 왕국, 란상!
타이족은 메콩강을 더 남하해 오늘날의 라오스 땅에 란상왕국(백만 코끼리의 왕국)을 세웠다.
근대 제국주의와 혁명의 역사 속에 은둔의 왕국이 되어버린 라오스!
그 이면에는 소승불교의 수호자, 란상왕국의 숨결이 살아 숨 쉰다.
▶행복과 자유의 나라! 수코타이
마침내 타이족은 인도차이나 중앙저지대로 내려와 동남아 최대왕국 수코타이를 건설한다.
행복을 의미하는 ‘수코’와 자유를 의미하는 ‘타이’.
자유와 행복을 찾아 추구한 타이인들의 Exodus!
수코타이는 타이족이 감행한 민족 대이동의 종착점이었다.

EXODUS of the Mekong
Thailand forming an axis of Indochina Peninsula.
However, the Tai were the last to arrive in Southeast Asia, and southward along the Mekong River to greet the national anthem.
Their history is 'Brief History' as one western scholar expresses.
The thirteenth century, when the Thai escaped massively, was also called the "Thai era."
Their major movements have made a great difference to the Asian society as compared to the germans.
Lee Chang-wun plays an active role on the Internet under the name of "Lance Mark".
He is a graduate of the Seoul National University of Fine Arts and History and currently lives in Yunnan, the gateway to China and Asia.
He found the footsteps of the Thai people who had left for freedom, and set out on a spectacular stretch of 4,000 kilometers to China, Myanmar, Thailand and Laos.
▶ Large Taijin Migration
As early as the dynasty of the south country (737-902) and the agency (937-1253), the dynasty of Dali was the coalition government of the minority who participated in the Tai.
In 1253, the Yuan Kubilai took over the agency to attack the rear of the Southern Song.
The Tai made great strides in the nation through the Rangchang River (the Chinese name of the Mekong River) for freedom.
▶ A small Thailand in China, Sichuan
It is the residence of the last Thai people still in China.
In Sichuan Ban, Tai people who have not been able to survive in Indochina are making their own autonomous provinces.
Thai, Chinese, Thai, and Thai culture. There is a prototype of the Tai in Sikhbanna.
▶ First Thai Kingdom - Lanna Kingdom
Over the Chinese border, the Rancheng River will be called the Mekong River.
The gateway to Indochina The founding of the Kingdom of Lanna, the first Thai kingdom in the Golden Triangle!
Late arriving in the Indochina Peninsula, the Thai people pressed the indigenous forces and finally built the kingdom around Chiang Mai for 700 years.
▶ One million elephant's kingdom, Rang!
The Thai have further south of the Mekong and have built the Lanzhou Kingdom (the kingdom of one million elephants) in today's Laos land.
Laos has become the kingdom of seclusion in the history of modern imperialism and revolution!
Behind it is the breath of the kingdom of the kingdom of langage.
▶ A Kingdom of Happiness and Freedom! Sukhothai
Finally, the Tai descend into the Indochina Central Lowlands and build Southeast Asia's largest kingdom, Sukhothai.
'Suko' means happiness and 'Thailand' means freedom.
Exodus of Thai people who sought freedom and happiness!
Sukhothai was the end of the ethnic movement of the Tai.
