23억 명이 움직이는 날, 춘절! 인구 1,700만의 베이징을 잠들게 하는 중국 최대의 명절 춘절은 과연 어떤 모습일까. 8개월 만에 장장 16시간의 귀향길에 오르는 농민공 한주롱(30)씨의 신바람 나고 눈물겨운 춘절이야기가 W에서 공개된다.
8개월만의 귀향, 16시간의 대장정!
바닥에 쪼그려 앉아 잠을 자는 이들부터 제 몸만 한 가방을 몇 개씩 멘 이들까지! 어마어마한 수의 사람들이 북적이는 인간 박물관, 바로 중국 베이징의 기차역이다. 매년 2월이면 역은 아수라장이 된다. 바로 중국 최대의 명절 춘절 때문이다. 줄지 않는 대기 시간에 지친기색이 역력한 귀향인파 속에서 유독 눈에 띄는 한 사람! 양손가득 짐을 든 남자는 지치기는커녕 노래를 흥얼거렸다. “빨리 집에 가고 싶어요.” 8개월 만에 고향에 간다는 그는 농민공 한주롱(30)씨. 제작진은 그의 기차표를 보고 놀라지 않을 수 없었다. 도착시간이 출발 16시간 후인 다음 날 아침 9시였던 것! 게다가 그의 표는 입석이었다. 좌석에 앉기 위해 요란한 실랑이가 끊이지 않는 기차 안, 사람으로 미어터지는 기차 통로에 간신히 자리 잡은 한주롱씨. 빼곡한 사람들로 화장실 가는 일조차 난관인 기차에서 16시간을 서있는 것도 좋다고 할 만큼 귀향의 기쁨에 취해있는 그는 대체 왜 고향을 떠난 것일까?
쪽방에서 꿈을 찾는 농민공 한주롱의 북경나기
그는 2005년, 허베이성 광종현에서 베이징으로 올라오면서 농민공이 됐다. 농촌에서 농사를 짓다 좀 더 나은 돈벌이를 위해 도시에서 노동을 하게 된 것! 냉장고도 없는 허름한 쪽방이 그의 보금자리다. 식품배달부터 라면판매에 이르기까지 여러 일을 하면서도 한 달에 버는 돈은 34만원 남짓! 고향에 생활비까지 보내려면 빠듯한 생활이다. 하지만 그는 웃음을 잃지 않는다. “힘들지만 즐거워요. 해야 할 일이 있다는 게 행복해요.” 고된 일과를 마친 그는 집에서도 쉬지 않는다. 퇴근하기 무섭게 책을 보고 기타를 치는 그. “가수가 되고 싶어요. 꿈을 이루기 위해 공부하고 돈도 벌어야 해요.” 어머니를 위해 만든 곡이라며 제작진에게 노래를 불러주는 그는 타향살이를 하는 사람답지 않게 행복해보였다.
눈물겨운 북경생활과 귀향길 끝에 맞이한 눈물 나게 행복한 춘절!
올 해 일흔인 한주롱의 어머니는 아들이 온다는 소식에 새벽 5시부터 일어나 밥을 앉혔다. 근 1년만의 재회에 반가움을 나누기도 잠시, 가족들은 금세 춘절준비로 분주해졌다. 장을 보러가는 한주롱 부부를 따라나선 W. 목을 따지 않은 닭부터 각양각색의 화려한 춘절 장식용품까지 시장은 한국과는 다른 볼거리로 가득했다. 같은 명절임에도 우리와는 사뭇 다른 모습은 집에서도 계속됐다. 집 안 곳곳에 사당을 마련해 제를 올리며 한 해의 평안을 빌고 춘절 전날 새벽에 만두를 빚으며 밤을 꼬박 새는 것! 폭죽 터지는 소리로 마을은 하루 종일 조용할 틈이 없었다. 장장 16시간의 귀향길, 그 대장정이 헛되지 않을 만큼 중국의 춘절은 신명났다.
