도착한 곳은 조치원의 난장.
장돌뱅이들의 왁자지껄한 고함소리, 장터 한가운데서 열리는 씨름대회,신나는 풍물가락이 그를 기다리고 있었다.
그 길로 그는 남사당의 후예가 되었고,7세 때 대통령상을 받는 등 장구의 신동으로 주목받았다.
사물놀이의 대가, 김덕수의 이야기다.
작은 체구로 그는 오로지 우리 것을 지키는 데 평생을 보냈다.
78년에는 꽹과리, 장구, 징, 북 등을 기본악기로 하는 사물놀이패를 만들어 퓨전음악을 겸비한 새로운 장르의 예술을 창조해내기도 했다.
뿐만 아니라 수십 년간 해외공연을 다니면서 세계 속에 한국의 소리를 알리기에 온 힘을 쏟았다.
2008년. 사물놀이 탄생 30주년...
사물놀이는 이미 세계 음악시장에서 인정을 받았다고 말하는 그는 이제 후배들을 양성하는 데 주력하고 있는데...
오직 풍물과 함께 한 김덕수의 51년 진솔한 인생사와 함께 사물놀이 30년에 이르기까지 세계 속의 사물놀이가 어떻게 변화해왔는지 그 위치를 더듬어본다.
