서해 최북단의 섬 백령도는 북한과 가장 가까운 섬이다.
서울보다 평양이 더 가까운 절해고도 백령도에는 NLL의 물길 따라 긴장 속에서 조업하는 어부들과 주민들이 살고 있다.
NLL 옆 좁은 해역에서 통발 조업을 하는 어민들은 남북의 긴장관계 속에서 위험하고 고된 작업을 한다.
2014년 3월 31일, 진촌 읍내에 울려 퍼지는 사이렌 소리와 대피 안내 방송... 세 시간 동안 500여 발의 포격 도발이 이어졌고 그 중 100여 발이 NLL 이남 물범 바위 주변에 떨어졌다.
군사적으로 긴장 지대인 이곳에서 살아가는 주민들의 불안한 하루를 포착한다.
물범, 매, 갈매기 등 동물들은 자유롭게 NLL을 넘나드는데 고향을 떠나온 사람들은 눈앞에 보이는 고향땅을 가지 못하고, 멀리서 망원경을 통해 바라보기만 한다.
분단의 비애와 때 묻지 않은 절경이 동시에 자리하는 백령도, 이곳에서 살아가는 사람들의 이야기를 전한다.

People who keep the NLL on the sea of free life
Baekryeong Island, the northernmost island in the West Sea, is the closest island to North Korea.
Fishermen and residents live in Baekryeong Island, which is closer to Pyongyang than Seoul, along the NLL waterway.
Fishermen who are fishing in the narrow waters next to the NLL work dangerously and hard in the inter-Korean tensions.
On March 31, 2014, a siren sounded in the town of Jincheon, and an evacuation announcement ... Over three hours of 500 shells of arson continued, and about 100 of them fell on the rocks of the NLL.
It captures the uneasy day of residents living here in the military tension zone.
Animals such as seals, hawk, and seagulls cross the NLL freely. People who leave their hometown do not get to their hometowns, and look at them from a distance.
Baekryeong Island, where the sadness of division and the unspoilt scenery are located at the same time, tells the story of people living here.
