박경리 토지의 주무대가 된 악양에 가면 꼭 봐야 할 것이 있다.
바로 드넓은 80만평 들판을 가득 메운 청보리와 고즈넉하게 자리잡은 최참판댁.
드라마 세트장으로 지어진 토지 마을과 최참판댁은 보존이 잘 되어 있고 자원봉사자분들이 한결같이 최참판으로 분장해 집을 지키고 있어 사람 사는 냄새가 폴폴 풍기는 그런 곳이다. 또한 고소성에 올라 80만평 청보리밭과 최참판댁을 두루 살피다 보면 가슴 속까지 탁 트이는 시원한 기분을 느낄 수 있다.
하지만 이러한 풍경보다 더 아름다운 것이 있었으니 그것은 바로 삶에 베어있는 느림의 아름다움. 1999년 이탈리아에서 시작된 슬로 시티 (Slow City) 운동은 속도와 생산성만을 강요하는 빠른 사회 (Fast City)에서 벗어나 자연. 환경. 인간이 서로 조화를 이루며, 여유있고 즐겁게 살자는 취지로 2009년에는 하동군 악양면이 단독으로 선정되었다.
편의점이나 패스트푸드점은 물론 도시의 치열함을 느낄 수 있는 것은 어디에도 없다.
다만 우리가 잊고 있었던 자연의 순리가 베어든 삶의 여유만 있을 뿐.
하동군 악양면 고즈넉한 풍경에 취해 우리가 잃어버렸던 여유를 되찾는 시간을 즐겨보자.
