여울은 물이 고이지 않고, 잔물결이 이는 경사진 곳을 말한다. 이곳에 한반도 고유종인 감돌고기, 퉁사리, 꾸구리 등이 살고 있다.
시골에서는 ‘발목쟁이’라고 부를 만큼 수심이 얕은 여울은 햇빛을 이용한 광합성과 물살이 돌과 부딪치며 만들어내는 기포 유입으로 산소 공급이 풍부해져 다양한 생물들이 살아갈 수 있는 환경을 만든다.
녹조류를 저지하고, 강의 자정작용을 돕는 하천 생태계의 보고, 금강 여울은 토종물고기들에게 소중한 서식처이자 산란장이다.
세상에서 오직 한반도에서만 만날 수 있는 한국적인 색채와 몸매를 가진 물고기들의 신비한 생태가 공개된다.

Why is the endemic species on the Korean peninsula so plentiful?
