여름철 강가를 산책하다보면 흔히 발견할 수 있는 오각형의 잎을 가진 식물, 바로 가시박.
가시박이란 원산지가 북미인 외래종 덩굴식물로 줄기에는 가시가 돋아있고, 뭐든 감고 올라가는 습성이 있어 주변의 나무와 식물을 뒤덮어 고사시키는 아주 무시무시한 식물!
생태계교란식물로 지정된 가시박이 우리의 자연에 치명적인 피해를 주고 있다!
가시박으로 인해 생태계의 다양성에 위협을 받고 있는 생태계보전지역, 밤섬.
철새의 보금자리 뿐 아니라 약 108종의 다양한 식물이 서식하는 자연생태보전지역 밤섬도 가시박의 피해로 몸살을 앓고 있는데..
소음으로 새들에게 영향을 끼칠까 전기톱도 사용을 못하고 다른 식물에게 함께 해가 될까 제초제도 사용하지 못하여 제거활동이 어려운 상황.
밤섬 외에도 하루에 30cm자라는 엄청난 생장력으로 제거는 물론 농사에도 막대한 피해를 끼치고 있어 농민들이 울상을 짓고 있다.
경기북부지역에는 가시박과 함께 생태계교란종으로 지정된 단풍잎돼지풀이 심각!
단풍잎돼지풀은 빽빽이 자라나 다른 식물이 들어설 자리를 빼앗고 키가 3m까지 자라 아래의 다른 식물들은 광합성을 할 수 없어 말라죽고 만다.
줄기가 대나무처럼 곧게 뻗어 그 시기를 놓치면 제거하기도 힘든 단풍잎돼지풀 또한 가시박과 함께 우리 생태계의 독이 되고 있다.
한가지 반가운 소식은 가시박의 특유의 제초성분과 살충성분을 연구하여 화학약품을 첨가하지 않는 천연제초제를 개발 중에 있다는 소식!
우리의 생태계를 뒤흔들고 농작물까지 망치는 외래종, 가시박과 단풍잎돼지풀.
