수리부엉이족이 이야기

 수리부엉이 제국으로 들어간다는 것은 수리부엉이의 일원이 되어 수리부엉이처럼 생활해야 한다는 것을 의미한다. 수리부엉이가 해가 지면 활동을 시작해 해가 뜨면 잠자리에 들어가므로 우리는 해가 지기 3시간 전에 촬영준비를 하고 해가 뜨고 2시간 후에 모든 작업을 종료한다. 수리부엉이의 일거수일투족을 다 담아내기 위해서는 수리부엉이보다 더 일찍 움직이고 더 늦게까지 촬영해야했다
 낮에는 비실거리다가 밤이 되면 눈이 말똥말똥해지며 생기를 되찾는 야행성의 사람을 두고 올빼미족이라고 한다. 사실 수리부엉이는 올빼미과에서 가장 큰 새다. 그런 의미에서 진정한 야행성은 올빼미족보다는 ‘수리부엉이족’으로 부르는 것이 타당할듯 싶다. 올빼미과에는 낮에도 활동하는 올빼미들도 있으니 말이다.
 
우리는 ‘수리부엉이족’이 되어 3년 동안 그 제국의 모든 행동과 원리(교미와 번식, 사냥, 독립과정 등)를 40분 분량의 HD 방송용 테이프로 약 400개에 생생하게 담아낼 수 있었다.

그러나 진정한 수리부엉이보다 더 충실한 수리부엉이족이 된다는 것은 인간적인이 인내를 요한다. 연중 1주일에 4~5일간 밤을 샌다는 것은 아무리 생각해도 초인에 가깝다. 그렇다고 낮에 충분한 수면을 취할 수 있는 것도 아니다. 낮에도 촬영해야 할 일이 많기 때문이다. 처음에는 긴장이 되어 졸림 자체를 모르다가 나중에는 잠시 짬이 생기자 흙바닥에 주저앉아 잠을 청하던 스탭들(김승민 촬영감독과 한태훈 오디오맨)에게 미안함을 넘어 안쓰러움까지 느꼈다. 두 사람에게 정말 고맙다는 말을 전하고 싶다. 게다가 수리부엉이는 소리에 민감함으로 스탭 수를 최소한으로 유지해야 했는데, 그래서 운전도 우리 스탭들이 번갈아 했다. 지친 몸으로 운전까지 한다는 것은 정말이지 고역이다. 체력적인 한계까지 느꼈지만 정상적인 제작을 위해서는 어쩔 수 없는 노릇이었다.
   
수리부엉이의 행동을 철저하게 파헤치기 위해서는 한곳의 둥지만으로는 되지 않는다. 여러 조건의 수리부엉이를 관찰함으로써 수리부엉이의 참모습을 담을 수 있었다. 사람이 각기 다른 모습과 성품을 지녔듯이 수리부엉이도 생김새, 오는 모습, 경계 정도 등이 다 다르다. 각기 개성이 있는 것이다. 이제 수리부엉이 각각의 모습을 보고 개체 구별이 될 정도가 되었으니 진정한 수리부엉이족이 되었는지도 모르겠다. 수리부엉이가 인정해 줄지는 모르겠지만...

Tales of the Eagle Owl

 Entering the Eagle Owl Empire means being a member of the Eagle Owl and living like a eagle owl. When the owl starts to sunrise, when the sun goes down, we go to bed, so we prepare to shoot 3 hours before sunrise, and after sunrise, we finish all work in two hours. I had to move earlier than the eagle owl to shoot all the rest of the owl, and shoot it later.

 It is said to be nocturnal in the daytime, but when it is nighttime, the owl family is said to have nocturnal people who regain their vigor when their eyes are littered. In fact, the owl is the largest bird in owl. In that sense, true nocturnality would be more appropriate to call the 'owl family' rather than the owl family. There are owls in the owl that are active during the day.

 

We became a 'horned owl' and, for three years, we were able to bring about all the actions and principles of the empire (mating, breeding, hunting, independence, etc.) in about 400 HD broadcast tapes of 40 minutes.

However, being a more faithful owl than a true owl requires human patience. No matter how many nights you spend four or five days a week during the year, it is close to the superhuman. It does not mean that you can get enough sleep during the day. This is because there is a lot of work to do during the day. At first I was nervous and did not know the sleepiness itself, but later I felt sorry for the staff (Kim Seung-min, director of photography and Han Tae-hun audio manager) who hesitated to sleep on the bottom of the floor after a while. I really want to thank both of you. In addition, the owl was sensitive to sound, so we had to keep the number of staff to a minimum, so our staff alternated in driving. It is really a highway to drive with exhausted body. I felt my physical limit, but I could not help it for normal production.

 

In order to thoroughly explore the behavior of the eagle owl, one nest is not the only one. By observing various conditions of the owl, we could capture the true nature of the owl. Just as people have different shapes and characters, the owls have different appearances, appearance, and boundaries. Each one has personality. Now that we have seen each of the owls, we have become a genuine owl because they have become enough to distinguish individuals. I do not know if the owl will admit it ...
