이별의 상처에 채 딱지가 앉기도 전에 소냐가 7살 되던 해 유방암으로 엄마마저 돌아 가시고 갈 곳 없이 홀로 남겨진 소녀, 소냐의 손을 잡아준 이는 바로 할머니였다.
엄마라는 분이 계시다가 안계시고 이제 노인 두 분이 나를 데리고 있으니까 놀림 들이나 그런 것이 감당이 안 되셨나봐요. 그래서 할아버지는 입양 보내라, 할머니는 딸도 갔는데 얘까지 보낼 수 없다 ,그 갈림길에서 할머니가 저를 안 보내셨죠...

노래하는 게 이야기하는 것과 다를 바 없었던 소녀.
자연을 무대 삼아 그때그때의 슬프고 기쁜 감정을 노래로 표현하며 놀던 소녀는 자라서 가난 때문에 낮에는 방직공장의 여공으로 일하고, 밤에는 공부하는 여고생이 되었어도 늘 웃음을 잃지 않고 공장 기계 소음 속에서도 노래를 불렀다.
그녀가 목청껏 내지르는 소리가 커져갈수록 가수의 꿈도 아버지에 대한 그리움도 커져만 갔다.
그리고 꿈은 이루어졌다. 그러나...
