하루에 소주 20병은 기본! 하루 24시간 술병을 놓지 않은 그의 별명은 바로 ‘오리창자’
밑 빠진 독처럼 술을 아무리 마셔도 취하지 않는 동남 씨에게 친구들이 붙여준 별명이다.
공부는 못해도 술 마시는 것만큼은 내가 1등!
그렇게 술에 죽고 술에 살던 그는 결국 알코올 중독을 얻게 됐다.
술이 없으면 밥 한 숟갈조차 넘길 수 없는 날들이 반복된 것.
그는 살기 위해 술을 마셔야 하는 지경에 이르렀다.
결국 심각한 알코올 중독에 빠진 그는 환각과 환청, 환시에 시달리게 되는데...

'나와 함께 두부를 만들어 보지 않겠습니까?'
노숙인 쉼터 시설장은 술과 거리를 방황하던 동남 씨를 포기하지 않았다.
그렇게 '두부'를 만난 동남 씨.
하지만 그는 두부를 만들면서도 술의 유혹을 이겨내지 못했다.
그러던 어느 날 동남 씨는 '마지막으로 술을 실컷 마시다 죽자'는 생각으로 공원을 돌며 미친 듯이 술병을 찾아 헤매던 중 사람들에게 행패를 부리며 손가락질 받는 노숙자의 모습에서 자신의 모습을 발견하고 충격을 받게 된다.
‘인간 김동남, 이대로 죽을 것인가? 아니면 노숙자가 아닌 인간답게 살아 볼 것인가?!’
죽음의 문턱에서 그는 인간답게 다시 살아 보고 싶다는 뜨거운 욕망을 선택했고 시설장을 찾아가 '술을 끊겠다'고 다짐한다.
매번 술을 끊겠다는 반복된 거짓말에도 열 번이고, 백 번이고 속아주며 묵묵히 그를 믿어준 시설장.
시설장이 없었다면 지금의 동남 씨는 없었을 거라는데...

재래시장에서 두부를 직접 만들어 파는 아줌마, 할머니 그에게 두부를 만드는 사람은 모두 선생님이었다.
선생님들을 직접 쫓아다니며 콩 불리는 방법부터 응고 두부가 완성될 때까지 모든 과정을 직접 메모해가며 김동남표 두부를 만들기 위해 노력했다.
지난 날 하루 24시간 술을 마시는데 쓴 동남 씨는 이제는 술을 끊고 모든 시간을 두부 연구에 몰두하고 있다.
