맥아더 기념관에 남아 있는 이승만의 흔적!
미국 버지니아에 위치한 맥아더 기념관. 세계 2차 대전 전후 시기, 맥아더의 문서를 보관하고 있다. 이곳에서는 해방된 한국으로 돌아가고 싶다는 이승만의 편지와 전보. 맥아더가 이승만을 한국의 임시 대통령이라고 표기한 메모까지 소장하고있다.
최초로 공개되는 맥아더 기념관, 이승만의 흔적! 이승만은 어떻게 맥아더를 만날 수 있었나? 맥아더와 이승만이 만나 함께 그린 한국의 미래는 무엇일까?
임시정부에 불어 닥친 대통령 논란!
1919년 임시정부 국무총리직과 한성정부 집정관 총재에 임명된 이승만. 그는 국무총리나 집정관 총재는 미국식으로 해석하면 'president'라고 주장, 이 호칭을 사용한다. 이에 임정 지도자들은 반발을 제기, 전보를 보낸다.
임시정부는 국무총리 제도이고 한성정부는 집정관 총재 제도이며 어느 정부에나 대통령 직명이 없으므로 각하가 대통령이 아닙니다....
헌법을 개정하지 않고 대통령 행사를 하시면 헌법 위반이며,정부를 통일하던 신조를 배반하는 것이니 대통령 행사를 하지 마시오.

이승만은 안창호에게 다음과 같은 답장을 보낸다.
만일 우리끼리 떠들어서 행동이 일치하지 못한 소문이 세상에 전파되면독립 운동에 큰 방해가 있을 것이며 그 책임이 당신들에게 돌아갈 것이니 떠들지 마시오.

임시정부 대통령 이승만, 그는 왜 탄핵되었나?
1919년 9월 6일 상해 임시정부 초대 대 통령으로 선출된 이승만. 그러나 1923년 대통 령직에서 탄핵된다. 임시정부는 이승만이 상해 를 떠난다면 대통령 직에서 탄핵 될 수도 있음 을 경고한 상태. 그러나 결국 이승만은 상해를 떠난다. 임시정부 대통령의 의무를 저버리면 서까지 미국으로 향하는 이승만. 그가 미국으로 향한 이유는 무엇일까?
같은 꿈, 다른 길-임시정부와 이승만의 노선차이
1908년 샌프란시스코. 한반도 일본통치에 동조한 미국인 스티븐슨이 장인환에 의해 숨지는 사건이 벌어진다. 한인들은 이승만에게 장인환의 법정 통역을 부탁하지만 이승만은 기독교도로서 살인자를 변호할 수 없다는 이유를 들어 거부한다.
이후 안중근의 이토 히로부미 암살, 윤봉길의사의 의거를 비롯한 의열 투쟁 때도 반대의 입장을 분명히 밝혔던 이승만. 그는 이런 행위는 ‘무법한 개인행동’에 불과하다고 주장한다.
혼란한 해방정국, 고국으로 향하는 이승만의 행보
미국에서 교육과 외교활동을 펼쳤던 이승만. 그의 나이 일흔 네 살. 조국 해방을 맞이한다. 미군정의 대대적인 이승만 환영식이 있던 날. 미군 중장 하지는 이승만이 연설하는 내내 부동자세로 서서 최고의 경의를 표한다.
미군정의 인정을 받지 못해, 임정요인들이 개인자격으로 귀국하던 때. 미군의 환대를 받으며 고국에 돌아온 이승만. 그는 어떻게 미군을 움직일 수 있었을까? 이후 이승만의 행보는 어떤 변화를 가져왔을까?
이승만의 정읍발언, 이승만 분단을 선택하다!
1946년 5월 미소공동위원회가 무기한 휴회된다. 6월 4일 이승만은 정읍에서 단독정부에 관한 발언을 남긴다.
“통일정부를 고대하나 여의치 않으니 우리는 남방만이라도 임시정부 혹은 위원회 같은 것을 조직하여 38이북에서 소련이 철퇴하도록 세계공론에 호소하여야 될 것이다”

1948년 남한은 이승만을 대통령으로 하는 단독 정부를 수립. 이후 한반도는 분단의 역사를 걷게 된다.

Presidential controversy over provisional government!
He was appointed Prime Minister of the Provisional Government in 1919 and President of the Hansung Government. He uses this title, claiming that the prime minister and the governor-general are interpreted as "president." Therefore, the leaders of the government issue the protest and send the telegram.
The Provisional Government is the Prime Minister System, the Hansung Government is the Magistrate's Governing Body, and the President is not your President because there is no Presidential Title in any government.
If the president does not revise the Constitution, it is a violation of the Constitution. It is against the principle of unifying the government.

Why is impeachment imminent?
On September 6, 1919, Rhee Sung Man was elected president of the Shanghai Provisional Government. In 1923, however, he was impeached by the Great Leader. The interim government has warned that if Rhee left Seoul, he might be impeached. In the end, however, Rhee is leaving Shanghai. Lee Seung - man, heading for the United States until he abandons the duty of the interim government president. Why did he go to America?
The same dream, the other way - the difference between the interim government and Rhee's line
1908 San Francisco. Stevenson, an American who has cooperated with Japanese rule on the Korean peninsula, is killed by Chang Inhwan. Koreans ask Rhee to give legal interpretation of Jang In-hwan, but Rhee rejects the reason that he can not defend the murderer as a Christian.
