숨비소리는 해녀들이 참았던 숨을 내쉴 때 휘이~하고 내는 소리다. 휘파람 소리, 새 소리, 돌고래 휘슬음과 비슷하게 들린다.
짧고 작지만 오랜 세월 제주 앞바다에서 울려왔던 영혼의 소리다.
해녀들이 숨을 참는 시간은 얼마나 될까? 수중카메라로 해녀들의 들숨 날숨을 지켜 보았다.
수온, 수심에 따라 차이가 있지만 제작진이 지켜 본 85세 해녀 할머니는 소라를 캘 때 최장 38초였다.
상군 해녀(물질 잘 하는 해녀)는 전복, 문어를 잡을 때 50초를 넘지 않았다. 땅에서의 호흡은 무의식적이지만, 물속에서의 호흡은 철저하게 의식적이다.
몇 초가 생사를 가르기 때문이다. 숨비소리에 담긴 삶의 치열한 순간과 애환을 본다.

The most beautiful and imminent breath in the world
The sound of the breath is the sound of the whirling when the breathing that the seamen endured. It sounds like a whistle, a bird sound, a whale whistle.
It is a short, small but soulful sound that has been ringing off the coast of Jeju for many years.
How long will it be for the daughters to breathe? I watched the expulsion of the sea ladies with an underwater camera.
Water temperature and water depth, but the 85-year-old grandmother, who watched the crew, had a maximum of 38 seconds when she slept.
The dancer (a well-behaved woman) did not exceed 50 seconds when she caught abalone and octopus. Breathing on the ground is unconscious, but breathing in the water is thoroughly conscious.
It takes a few seconds to live and die. I see the fierce moments and complaints of life in the sound of breath.
